Vocal Feminization Consult & Training

I consulted with a vocal feminization expert today, February 14th, 2025. She was the medical assistant of the original doctor I was going to see, but she had just as much know how. We'll call her "Velocity" for anonymity.

We shook hands and got into some vocal exercises, such as reading a passage regarding a prism and a rainbow.

Then my right nostril was prepped with lidocaine, and I breathed in to numb my throat and air passages, nostrils, ect.

The endoscope nostril camera entered my nostril and took video of my vocal folds.

It was pretty interesting feeling and ticklish to have a camera tube down my nostril and windpipe.

The video quality was pretty awesome and it was so cool to see my vocal cords.

We did some additional vocal exercises to see how my vocal folds react and behave.

I did pretty well, but could use some practice. When I asked about if I can get the videos sent to me, Velocity said that the photos will be available and that I can reccord the screen for my content. That was so awesome of her!

I told her earlier that I do singing, so we practiced with that. I struggled a little, because she's a much better singer than me, but, I eventually got better at the octaves though, and that was really cool. She used an app to track my pitch and stuff while I sang, and that was super awesome. We did kitty meows as well, that was so cute! ♥︎♡♥︎♡

I was there for surgery, but she informed me that my vocal cords looked female already and she couldn't tell the sex/gender of my vocal cords. My vocal folds still retain the fold gap as seen in female vocal folds, so that was very beautiful to know.

It was also beautiful that Velocity told that her sister is trans male to female as well, and a singer too. Velocity's sister was satisfied with vocal training. Knowing that information really made me feel more confident and less alone.
Like my mom said, it is amazing to have someone who understands.

I was hoping for vocal feminization surgery, however Velocity informed me that vocal cords were beautiful and the most beautiful she's seen all week. She strongly advised I go with vocal training instead of surgery.

The patient satisfaction with vocal feminization surgery is 30% vs. 80% satisfaction with vocal feminization training,

or vocal feminization training combined with surgery, e.g training first, surgery second, then more training afterwards.

I thanked her and agreed, but I did have some more questions regarding surgery.

Like, I was wondering whether or not that I'll be able to sing after vocal feminization surgery. Apparently, you'll lose a lot of singing quality as Velocity told me. So I told her, oh that's a deal breaker.  (:

So it was settled, no surgery yet, we'll give the vocal training a try. My first vocal feminization therapy appointment is early May, which is so way because that's near my birthday! I hoped for surgery around that time, but it is such a gift to know that my vocal cords are already capable of achieving a feminine range.

I gave a few of my vocal range examples to her earlier (resting voice, feminine voice, super-high-pich voice), she liked my second example the most. The super high pitch wasn't how people normally talk, lol.
I had a super amazing time with Velocity and all the other vocal therapy staff, they were all awesome and caring!

My mom and brother drove me back home. We were having a conversation about vaginoplasty and stuff.
My mom's motivation encouraged me to see if the co-op vaginoplasty surgeon had an earlier date that to see me, and she did, she was available late February which definitely beat mid-June, so I was super happy about that. I didn't know that I have been finally rescheduled to an earlier date to see her. I'm definitely happy, and I look forward to seeing the FFS and Vaginoplasty surgery this month.

Also, we went to Publix on the way back home to pickup my Estradiol prescription ♡ That was like the first time my mom and brother drove me to that publix for prescription pickup, I typically try to go alone because of shame... I mean, I still went to the counter solo, but it is progress. I'm very fortunate for the super support!

After Publix and the Park
eventually came Walmart, so I grabbed some HerShe.
That reminds me, when Velocity asked about my pronouns, I replied "She/He". That was so beautiful! ♡◇♡◇♡◇

Thank you family, doctors, nurses and friends for everything!!!

Alan.
